The Rock

Just been away to Gibraltar and one of the highlights of the holiday was going on a little history trip up the famous Gibraltar Rock.

Just thought I would include a few photos.

We actually went inside the Rock to see the 'Great Siege Tunnels' which was really interesting, I love a good history lesson!

There where miles and miles of tunnels and windows carved into the Rock and if you look closely at the first photo you may be able to see some of the openings in the Rock that were used to place cannons or look outs.

The tunnels where created not by machine but men with tools, which I found incredible. They had some of the scary models set up to show exactly what the tunnels and openings had been used for and the view from the openings was beautiful as you can see in the last few photos.

The tunnels had been used to watch over the border to Spain. The photos at the bottom show the view of the Spanish border which is now being used as a runway. The scary thing I noticed while the plane was landing was that the runway actually goes into the sea!
